Annual General Meeting January 7, 2006.

The AGM was held yesterday at Ned's with 27 in attendance and 25 absentee ballots received.  Thanks everyone for participating.  I have attached the "State of The Society Presentation" for those of you who could not attend.  NGS membership cards are now available, unfortunately I forgot them!!  I will leave them at Ned's so stop by, ask for a manager and collect yours.  New members, give me a week or two.

After the presentation we had brief discussions on a series of topics, the comments/suggestions for which will be taken up by the new committee.

Topics and comments were as follows:

Handicaps:

We are close to reality but in an effort to achieve reality handicaps will be held for each member at our home course, South Riding. The renewal fee is now $45 in return for which the handicap fee is waived. We will be emailing the membership with the logistics of how this will work before the end of the month. If you joined over the past 4 months (post 9/1) the renewal fee is $20. Please leave the $$ for Glenn at Ned's or mail a check to Glenn at 12167 Eddyspark Drive , Herndon, 20170.

Flights:

It was suggested that we need to consider flights for our tournaments, particularly for Stableford events where the higher handicaps have a significant advantage. A recommendation was to flight by evenly splitting the field prior to the first time.

Courses:

We will be playing Pleasant Valley 3 times and South Riding once. Other courses for consideration are Old Hickory, Virginia National and Renditions.

Ryder Cup:

It should serve as one of the monthly events now an additional event. It will be at Pleasant Valley and we should arrange for foursomes go off both sides to speed things up.

Matchplay:

We will do this again and will also hold the auction prior to the event. A recommendation was made to have a two man matchplay event also with an entrance fee. The entrance fee would become the prize money.

Website:

The website is almost complete. Notification for events will come through the site with email reminders to look at the site.

Strokeplay:

It was recommended to hold it at Shenandoah again. A raffle will be held again to fund the event.

Trips:

One away trip vis a vis Charleston and one overnight like we did in Gettysburg. Williamsburg/Charlestown WV were suggested.

Schedule:

We should post the year's schedule by the end of January.

Scoring:

Each individual should have their own card, scored by an opponent.

Formats:

2 man scramble, 6/6/6

Finance:

Jack, with a proxy from Pat Barron, raised the issue of finance and record keeping. Pat is concerned about how we spend money and how it is managed. It was agreed by all that we need to be very careful and professional. It has been far to loose. However it was also recommended that a monthly cash statement be posted to the members only section for all to see. Pat was thanks for his service to NGS. I neglected to thank Jack for his service also. Jack is the other committee member who is standing down. Thanks for all your hard work Jack!

Audit Committee:

It was recommended to have an audit of our finances. It is likely that we will be handling over $50,000 this year. Ed volunteered his services.

Tax Exempt Status:

It was unanimously agreed to obtain this. Ed and Al agreed to investigate and find out the cost.

Location of After Event Parties:

Jack, with a proxy from Trevor, raised the point of whether we should consider other locations for the 19th hole. It was agreed that this is a Ned's society and we will keep the parties at Ned's.

Social Events:

We will be holding some sort of function to which we are all encouraged to bring a partner. It will be run by Stevie. Please stay tuned.

Awards:

Club Champion (strokeplay) : Frank Villarreal (trophy)
Matchplay Champion: Johnny Shields (trophy)
Golfer of the Year: Frank Villarreal ($100 Ned's Certificate)
Most Improved: Frank Villarreal ($50 Ned's Certificate)
Most Value (Most strokes taken!) : Colin Quinn ($50 Ned's Certificate)

A motion from the floor was accepted to accept the complete slate on the ballot meaning that we now have 8 committee members:

Dave L., Captain
Johnny Shields, Vice Captain (Captain Elect)
Glenn Hume, Treasurer
Carl Couey, Sponsorship (Carl is having second thoughts due to the long distance away that he lives) Stay tuned
