We held a committee meeting last night in Ned's attended by all the committee except Paddy (in Ireland) and George (on his way to Australia).
Finance:
Glenn provided the monthly report showing a profit of $69 from the PV tournament after another charitable donation to Kid's R First. We have $6615.87 in the account with obligations of about $5500. We have about $400 still owed from the raffle and we have paid for the bus to Shenandoah so, in reality we are about $2,500 to the good.
New Golf Retail Partner:
We have reached an agreement with GOLF ETC in the Target shopping center on Route 7 to be the Society's official partner. You will all be getting a Player's Club card from them free with some starter points. You will then get a 10% discount on all clubs (except Ping) and all other items such as cloths, shoes, fitting, regripping, shafts, repair etc. You will even get 10% on sale items (not clearance).
Pat and Brian have started this business to provide premium service to their customers. Their pricing is as good as any of the large stores. The player's club card gives you a point for every dollar you spend which you can use for more stuff in the store.
Please patronize their store. They also are both joining the society although they will not have much time to play in the first year of business. In addition they are donating $100 vouchers for prizes in each event and will give the Society a Society Club Card with which we will buy prizes, shirts for the Ryder Cup etc and thereby get a discount and accumulate points for prizes. In return we are giving them access to our member list which they will not share. You will get about 20 emails a year from them highlighting promotions, manufacturer days etc. You can opt out of these at any time.
Strokeplay:
On July 22nd: Breakfast will be served at 7 AM at Ned's and the bus will leave around 7.45. The cost for the day is $100 to include the bus, 3 meals, prizes, 27 holes of golf, drinks back at Ned's. Johnny will explain the rules for the day on the bus. For this tournament only we will pair by handicap so the lower handicaps will play together and the higher together. We will have prizes for 1st and 2nd gross and 1st and 2nd net. The net winner will be the strokeplay champion and will get his or her name on the trophy. We will also have prizes for closest to the pin on each of the 3 nines. If you haven't yet signed up please do so immediately.
Handicaps:
We all have USGA handicaps now but many of you are not entering your scores. Yesterday I entered all the scores from the PV tournament for you and the new handicaps are attached in the directory. These are the handicaps we will use for the strokeplay and any matchplay matches left. The society will enter all scores from the strokeplay. Please avail of this capability as we need 20 scores for each player to get a true handicap. We originally entered 10 for you.
Ryder Cup:
We have decided on 24 players a side although the Captains (Wayne and Liam) have a month to convince the committee that they can field an additional 4. A member can play for the ROTW if his or her grand parent hails from overseas. However, once you decide to play for the US or the ROTW you CANNOT change in subsequent years. We are feeling our way this year with regard to who gets to play. Remember each year this is a competitive and selective event. It is very important. Next year we are planning to introduce some sort of Order of Merit from which the teams will be selected, probably along with several Captain's choices. This year's Ryder Cup will be held on September 23rd and 24th.
Inter Pub Challenge:
The match with O'Faolain's has not yet taken place but will be scheduled in late July.
Matchplay:
We are in the final rounds and those of you who bought player's who are out need to pay Glenn immediately. The bracket and payment sheets are attached.
Ned's Golf Pub:
Pleasant Valley are finishing up the 3 2' x 3' photos which will soon adorn the walls. Johnny is getting the engraving redone so we can update and read the honors boards. We hope to complete this by the strokeplay.
Sponsorship:
Now that we are a 501C7 Carl is working on some big ideas for sponsorship. We won't see much cash to the society from this but it will put us in the big leagues in terms of charitable donations and we should all be excited about that. We also need to solicit members to get small donations to help us sponsor tournaments and other events. $250 or $500 or even $100 for an event will go a long way to help up and will be a good (charitable) investment for anyone that wants access to 86 members. So, try to spread the word and find some sponsors (or sponsor yourself). The event will be called the July ABC company tournament (for example) and in return the sponsor will get a one time access to the members through me (we won't give out the emails).
Thanks everybody!
Dave Lewis, Captian
