US retains the Ryder Cup Under the leadership of the redoubtable Captain Wayne Barber, the US convincingly beat the Rest of the World Team at Pleasant Valley to retain the Ryder Cup

Andre wins the Matchplay and becomes The 2006 Club Champion Andre beat The Kid Kaiser on the 18th hole at Raspberry Falls in a very close match.

Alice Smith is the 2006 strokeplay champion
Alice is the winner of the annual strokeplay championship played at Shenandoah Valley. She pipped Dino by 1/2 stroke over 27 holes. Well played Alice (and Dino!).

Johnny Shields to compete in the Northern Virginia Amateur
Johnny will play in the prestigeous Northern Virginia Amateur Championship on Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 28/29 and 30 at Lansdowne Resort. June 8th, 2006:
Free Clinics a Great Success
NGS sponsored 25 of our members to a tune of $1300 and they received 4 1/2 hours of professional instruction from John O'Leary, PGA Pro and Certified Instructor. By all accounts the clinics were a raving success.

Trevor and Al Gnadt win the May Tournament
They shot an amazing 18 under and narrowly defeated Al Bolivar and Marcus who took second with 17 under.

Ryder Cup Announced
Wayne Barber will captain the US team and Trevor Higginbotham will captain the Rest of the World for this great annual event which will take place over two days at Pleasant Valley on September 23rd and 24th.

Annual Strokeplay Championship Announced
The 2nd Annual Strokeplay CHampionship will be held over 27 holes on 7/30 at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club.

Raffle For 4 Round Trip Tickets To Ireland Starts
Tickets are only $20 and there are only 600 tickets. The draw will be at the end of May after the May event. The prize includes a car and a week of accommodation. Tickets are available from the manager at Ned's.

65 Sign Up For Matchplay
We have a full bracket with one play in game. Matches start in April. First prize will be $4,250 with $2,250 for second, $1,000 for third and $500 for fourth.

Charleston Trip A Great Success!
The second annual trip was a tremendous success. We had 28 players and the courses were magnificent. The weather was great for the second two days and the rain on day 1 didn't deter the travellers.

January 1st, 2006:
Pleasant Valley and South Riding Deal Finalized
Members will receive a substantial discount on fees at both courses. You must present a NGS business card to receive the discount. In return NGS will play tournaments at these courses.
In a joint marketing arrangement PV and SR will provide discounts to members and Ned's and the courses will jointly advertize each others services. Members will also get a discount on a USGA handicap. Stay tuned for specials such as "golf and a steak!"

Shields wins matchplay
In a closely contested final Johnny beat Darrin coming from 4 holes down to clinch victory on the 18th hole with a birdie.
US team wins Ryder Cup
The US team, captained by Wayne Barber defeated the Rest of the World at Heritage Hunt by a substantial margin thereby regaining the coveted trophy.
August 31st, 2005:
NGS is close to finalizing a deal with Pleasant Valley Golf Club for them to be the Society's home course. In return for holding 3 tournaments and the 2006 Ryder Cup at PVGC or South Riding members will receive preferential rates whenever they play either course. Stay tuned for details.

Ryder Cup 2005 details announced
This years Ryder Cup will take place on 10/15 and 10/16 at Heritage Hunt. Please stay tuned for details. Wayne Barber and Phil Hussey will captain the US and Rest of the World teams respectively.
August 7th, 2005:
Shields advances to Matchplay final
Johnny Shields beat Dave Lewis 3 up at Old Hickory to advance to the finals of the NGS first ever matchplay tournament. Going 3 up after 3 holes Johnny never looked back although a win at 16 for Dave put him only 2 down with 2 to play. Johnny won 17 with a par to close out the match. He will play Alan Davey or Darrin McKenna in the final.
July 2005:
Shields finishes high up in US Amateur Open Qualifier at Golden Horseshoe
Johnny Shields, our own + handicap, member, attempted to qualify for the US Amateur Open. Despite not having played a serious tournament for almost 5 years Johnny performed admirable finishing in the top 10 out of over 90 competitors. The top three advanced. Well done Johnny.
