We had a meeting last night at Ned's attended by yours truly, Wayne, Paddy, Robin and Glenn. Stevie and Johnny couldn't attend. Finance: We have a healthy bank balance of almost $7,000 although much of that is committed to The Fisher House and the matchplay. Our aim is to pass $2000 to next year's committee and we had about $2000 of discretionary money. We spent about $1260 of that subsidizing the strokeplay to the tune of $5 per member and on the expanded prize fund. We will be spending the rest subsidizing the Raspberry Falls tournament to the tune of $10 per member. Monies are still due for the matchplay. Those of you who had someone other than Stevie, George, Brian or Dave White PLEASE pay now by sending a check to Glenn or AT THE LATEST bring one to the Raspberry tournament. The list is attached.
Membership: Steve Fields and Blake Zach, 2 former members were voted back in as full members. We now have 92 members. Ryder Cup: Raspberry Falls is the last qualifier. The teams will be announced within 24 hours of that event. The Ryder Cup will consist of 9 holes Scotch Foursomes/9 holes best ball 2 man teams on Saturday at South Riding and 20 singles matches at Pleasant Valley on the Sunday. 1 point for each match.
Raspberry Falls, Saturday August 25th: We now have 60 players. If you want to play let me know immediately and I will try to get more tee times.
Matchplay: Brian McDonald (congrats to you and Sarah on your new daughter) is through to the final where he will play the winner of Stevie and Dave White. George will play the lose for 3rd/4th place.
Handicaps: We are now posting every tournament score unless you post it yourself. Everyone should post every score on line and about 35% of you are doing so. We are actually very close to real handicaps throughout the society. Next year we will have a handicap committee and they will post EVERY score from our tournaments. SLOW PLAY: As you know this is a problem. Old Hickory have warned Raspberry so we have to really shape up this event and for all future events. 6+ hours is unacceptable. We have implemented rules and have come up with guidelines (thanks to Carl and Deirdre) to help you speed up.
RULES: 9 is maximum score on any hole. If you reach 9, PICK UP. We have instructed the course to tell the marshall that normal rules apply, whether or not we are in a tournament. If you fall a hole behind your group will receive a warning. The marshall will ride with you for the next hole and if you haven't caught up you will pick up your balls and proceed to the next tee, meaning you are out of the tournament.
GUIDELINES: These are mostly self evident but sadly occur all the time. Please read carefully and do the CORRECT thing each tournament: INCORRECT: Record scores sitting next to the green you just played while you, your passenger and the cart behind you waits CORRECT: Enter the scores when you get to the next tee. (It is also safer.) INCORRECT: Carry one club over to your ball only to learn you need more or less club CORRECT: Carry the club you think you will need and one on each end (i.e you think you need a 6 iron so take a 5 & 7 iron with you as well). INCORRECT: Hit your shot then put your club back in your bag while the driver of the cart sits waiting for you to do so CORRECT: Get in the cart with the club in your hand and return it to the bag when you get to the next tee. (For the driver, consider doing this as well as long as you can drive safely one handed.) INCORRECT: Sit in the cart while your cart partner is hitting his shot then wait to drive or be driven 30 yards to your ball so you can select your club and hit your shot. CORRECT: Get out of the cart, select the clubs you suspect you will need and walk (or drive) as close to your ball as is safe and considerate to do so. INCORRECT: Wait until it is your turn to determine the line of your putt and practice your stroke. CORRECT: Determine your line and practice your stroke as soon as possible while being considerate to those who are in the process of putting. INCORRECT: Leave clubs in the rough around the green. CORRECT: Place spare clubs on the green so they won’t be left behind, and others can see them and retrieve them for you while you are putting. INCORRECT: Put the “honors system” before pace of play. CORRECT: If you are ready to play your shot and someone who had the best score on the last hole is not, play before them providing you ask for and receive their consent. INCORRECT: Waiting until the person farthest from the hole to hit their shot even when they are not prepared to. CORRECT: It is considerate to go ahead of someone who is “away”, if, for whatever reason they are not ready and you are… providing you ask for and receive their consent. PLAY READY GOLF including on the tee. INCORRECT: Park the cart before the green when approaching the green to putt or play greenside shots. CORRECT:. Drop your passenger as close as possible to their ball and park the cart as close to the rear of the green as practically possible then walk back to your ball. If your ball is farther from the green then your passenger’s ball, ask the passenger to take the cart forward. INCORRECT: Taking 10 minutes to look for your ball and helping out EVERYBODY else looking for their ball CORRECT: 5 minutes is the maximum legal time allowed. While it is courteous to help your partner look for a ball, if you are in the right trees and he/she is in the left trees drop him/her off to look and go and look for your own. INCORRECT: Taking 4 practice swings, three regrips, 6 waggles before hitting CORRECT: Take one practice swing if you must, address the ball and HIT it. INCORRECT: Hitting a shot, assuming it is in play or findable, going to that spot, not finding it or finding it out of bounds, dropping a ball and taking one penalty CORRECT: If you think you MIGHT be OB or lost hit a provisional. That way if it is you don't have to return to where you hit from (the correct rule). You may play the provisional ball up to the point of your original shot. If you find your original ball you MUST play it although you do not have to look if you don't like where it might be. Thanks for your cooperation. Your committee asks that you police each other in regard to the above guidelines. It is a habit to play slowly, a bad one, so let's make it a habit to play quickly. Thanks and see you Saturday. Dave
