We held a committee meeting on 5/31 at Ned's attended miraculously by ALL of your committee.
Finance: Glenn presented his report showing a balance of over $4000 excluding monies for the matchplay auction and raffle. The tournament at PV made a small profit of $75.
Raffle: The final details will be available next meeting but it looks like we made a profit of around $4,000. We had over 100 tickets unsold so we discussed how to move them all next year. We will be nominating a two person raffle committee and the tickets will be available at the AGM next January which will give us more time. Two years ago when 4 tickets were not included in the renewal fee we sold about 500. This year, with over 300 sold through the renewal process we only sold about 180 more. So, the lesson is that, while the renewal process worked well we didn't have the emphasis on individual sales like we did last year. Special thanks to a few who sold a lot including Dave White, hairdresser to the stars, Al Fidler and Mike Foster. Next year we will have an incentive in the form of additional tickets for those who sell over 10, over 20 etc.
Membership: The following were voted in as full members having played with a committee member: Chris and Christine Reseigh, Paul Roberts, Mark Guthrie, Rich Stegall, Pat O'Day, Dawn Foster, Linda Tomes, Chris Rogan, Chris Burkette and Randy Moake. Pete Holleran was also voted in pending an application. Welcome aboard! The committee also granted honorary full memberships to John O'Leary and Butch Catone in recognition of the favors they have done for our members through the John O'Leary Golf School. Welcome to both of you. Don't forget to cheer on John as he tries to qualify for the US Open today at Woodmont.
Sponsorship: Many thanks to Liam for his sponsorship of last months tournament. Remember, if you need to buy a house, get a mortgage or refinance contact Liam. June event: The June tournament will be at South Riding at 12pm on the 30th (that's a Saturday). We do a random draw for each tournament with some exceptions such as the fact that guests play with their member, some people request early or late start times etc. To ensure fairness we will appoint a different committee member each tournament to do the draw. We will identify that person before the tournament so you can bitch at him or her and not at me!! 2008 calendar: We excited to announce that we have added Raspberry Falls as the location for our August event.
Handicaps: We are struggling to ensure that handicaps are fair and believe we are in reasonable shape. All tournament scores of 30 points or 6 over handicap will be entered by the committee if the player hasn't entered the score within a week of the event. PLEASE PLEASE try to enter all your scores to ensure fairness. Many of you haven't entered a score since September, others enter every score. It is a simple process.
www.vsga.org, handicapping, club page, scroll to Pleasant Valley, enter your code and password rosco and post. If you belong to another club let me know your handicap at the start of each month.
Ryder Cup: Wayne and Stevie are now taking over the selection and qualification for this great tournament. There will be 20 players per team and 16 will automatically qualify. There are three more tournaments to allow you to post scores. Your average of the low two scores will count toward qualification. There will be 4 captains picks. Matchplay: We are now almost finishing the round of 32 and I will send out the bracket next week when all matches are finished. The following are some rules clarifications for the round of 16 and beyond: If the par is different for ladies and men then you play each ball against your own par. So if a lady scores a net 5 on a par 5 and on the same hole a man scores a net 5 on a par 4 then the lady wins that hole The home player chooses the course and the away player chooses the tees. If there are three men's tees the man cannot be put at the very back. Golf area in
Ned's: Stevie is building a hole in one display to honor those members who have a hole in one (5 so far). Website: I have a meeting this Wednesday to move forward with the new site and to update the current one. Chris Harris: A word of thanks to Chris for giving the passes for the Nationwide Event a few weeks ago.
Charity: We have accrued $700 for the Fisher House and donated $200 to the American Cancer Society in honor of Lee Banting so far this year. Retail partner: We are working to develop a discount relationship with a local retail store similar to the one we have with Golf Etc.
Thanks
Dave Lewis, Captain
