Meeting Minutes July 2009

We had a full quorum for the committee meeting on Wednesday night at Ned's.

Finance: We have a healthy bank balance thanks to the raffle proceeds. We are in a position whereby after paying out the matchplay and the raffle we should have around $5,000 which will allow us to do more for the members, contribute more to The Fisher House and still be able to hand $2,000 to next years committee.

Membership: We still have a few who have not renewed. If you don't renew this month you will not be able to play in the strokeplay.

Raffle: Thanks to everyone who participated. We only had about 20 unsold, a great achievement which will go a long way.

Augustine: We agreed that we will likely not return due to the poor condition of the course. It was also noted that the length of the drive was too much, especially since we did it two months in a row (Cannon Ridge).

Strokeplay: The strokeplay qualifier will be held at Pleasant Valley on Saturday 7/25. Details and rules as follows: Tee times will start at 10.30 (yes and its not a lie this time!) The cost is $80 We will group from low to high handicap No guests are allowed, sorry. Please mark and sign another player's card, not your own There will be no gimmes and you must play to the end. In other words, unlike other events, if you take 10 shots, you take ten shots, no picking up. PLEASE play ready golf and play quickly. This format is slower than normal and we must be cognizant of the other players. If you think a ball is lost or OB, play a provisional. It is much faster than returning to the tee. Remember you cannot drop for 1 stroke if the ball is lost or OB. The rule is stroke AND distance. We will use blue tees. There will be a scoreboard so please give your cards to the pro at the end. The top 16 will play for free at Worthington Manor the next day. Scores will not carry forward. Saturday is the qualifier, Sunday is the championship. Prize money is as follows: $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd, $200 for 3rd and $100 for 4th. There will also be a $100 prize for 1st gross. New general tournament rule: If we play under a cart path only rule then we will automatically play winter rules. I.E. you can lift, clean and place in YOUR OWN fairway. We will also provide a rule sheet for each event showing tees and other rules for the day.

Handicaps: Thanks for really improving the posting regularity. Please try to post every time you play. We are close to having accurate handicaps and, given the money we play for, it is critical that we are as accurate as possble. It is incumbent on each of us to keep our handicap as accurately as possible. The handicaps published by Mike at the beginning of the month are for the matchplay and for any individual rounds you play before the 15th. Handicaps now adjust each 15th and Mike will adjust accordingly for each tournament.

Website: Thanks to Robin and Deirdre we are working to keep the site updated. We have already made some changes and very soon all committee minutes and news items will be updated each month. I will send out the latest membership list shortly. Please review and send me any changes. This will soon be posted to the members' only section allowing you to access phone numbers and other information. The log in is NGS and golf.

Ryder Cup: The teams will consist of the top twelve from the US against the top twelve from the Rest of The World, calculated on your 3 best scores. The cost will be $230 for two rounds and includes shirts and some refreshments. The event will take place on the 12th and 13th of September. Wayne will again captain the US and yours truly will captain the ROTW. More details to follow.

Lions v Legends: This new event will now be a one day event on September 27th. There is no qualification and the field will be split after sign up into two equal teams of younger and older players. More to follow.
Thanks everybody!
Dave
