We had a committee meeting last night attended by all the committee except Robin. With Johnny leaving next week we voted and passed Jack to be seconded to the committee to complete Johnny's term. Jack attended the meeting.
Ryder Cup: A motion was proposed and seconded to congratulate the US team on winning yet another Ryder Cup. The motion passed unanimously! Well done USA!
Finance: We have about $4000 available to the committee and, as our commitment is to pass on $2000 to the next year's committee, we discussed how to use the remaining money. Please see item below for further details. Glenn is running for an at large position next year and will end his two year commitment as treasurer. It was stated emphatically that Glenn's tenure as treasurer has led to vastly improved fiscal responsibility and his efforts are greatly appreciated. We put over $100,000 throught the society each year so this is not a trivial position. Thanks Glenn!
October tournament: We only have 20 signed up for VA Oaks, this Saturday but we will have fun anyway! See separate email for details. Let me know if there are any late entrants. We decided to recommend to the next committee that VA Oaks be granted a mid season tournament next year as we have now had two tournaments there with a much lower turnout than previously committed.
November Tournament: The November tournament will be held on the 18th, Sunday.
February/March away trip: We will again be going on an away trip in 2008. This will be the 4th trip having previously gone to Myrtle Beach, Charleston and the Pinehurst area. We have asked Andre to do some research and report back by the next committee meeting. Stay tuned for details. We had 28 last March and a great time was had by all.
2008 committee: We will be voting on the new committee at the AGM in early January. All the existing committee (remember Johnny is leaving) are running again. Please let me know if you want to run or if you want to propose a candidate. Currently Andre and Randy have been proposed. The committee designated myself as Captain and Wayne as Vice Captain for the 2008 calendar year. That leaves treasurer and 4 at large positions up for grabs.
Christmas party: It was agreed that we will hold a Christmas party at Ned's in mid December. All members are encouraged to attend and bring a wife, partner, girlfriend (only one out of the list is allowed!!). We will use some of the money mentioned above to sponsor the event. Details to follow. Please reply with your interest level in this event so we can gauge the potential attendance. During the evening we will hold a raffle, the proceeds of which will be put toward sponsorship of the away trip.
Matchplay: We are still collecting monies due for this event. If you still owe you will be contacted directly. This is way overdue. Please pay immediately. Winners: You will receive the payout at the AGM as previously planned.
Johnny Shields: As you all know Johnny is leaving us for warmer weather in Sunny St. Louis! He will be sorely missed as a founding member, a committee member, a vice captain, a great golfer and a friend. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed thanking Johnny for all he has done for the society. We wish him, Lisa and Emma great success and happiness in their endeavors in St. Louis and look forward to seeing him back at some of our events.
